Welcome to the Greek Student Section of SNAME NTUA
SNAME is an internationally recognized non-profit, professional society of individual members serving the maritime and offshore industries and their suppliers. Founded in 1893, the Society comprises more than 8,500 individuals throughout the world. Membership is open to all interested applicants. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers was organized in 1893, to advance the art, science, and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering. For over a century SNAME has included commercial and governmental practitioners, students, and educators of naval architecture, shipbuilding, and marine and ocean engineering.
SNAME encourages the exchange and recording of information, sponsors applied research, offers career guidance, supports education, and enhances the professional status and integrity of its membership.
Global Reach: With an international membership of over 8500 members, SNAME reaches professionals around the world. SNAME is the International Forum for Maritime and Ocean Professionals.
In its earliest days, SNAME was incorporated and nurtured by the titans of our industry including William H. Webb, George E. Weed, Rear Admiral George W. Melville. Other men of stature took the helm thereafter, including Edwin A. Stevens, David W. Taylor, Vice Admiral Land, Kenneth M Davidson, and Blakely Smith. SNAME technical information has long been the gold standard. SNAME publications are widely used as textbooks and reference materials at major universities.
University students in related fields and professionals with an education and background in maritime architecture and engineering may apply for membership in the Society. Student membership offers free participation at all technical meetings, organized by the local parent section and enables the participation at exclusive, members-only actions of the local student section, such as companies’ visits. Moreover a student member has access at SNAME’s publications, as well as a great discount at SNAME’s books. In advance there is given the chance of participation at the annual SMC and a claim for an undergraduate scholarship and internship. Upon their graduation, Student Members are transferred to Associate Members, entering the group of Young Professionals, an initiative aiming to keep members connected at the beginning of their career. Learn more about the benefits of Young Professionals here
Member or Associate Member status may be granted based on a review of applicant credentials, education, years of service, contributions to, and experience in the industry.
The Mission of SNAME is ACCOMPLISHED through the direction and vision of our Executive Leadership and articulated in the Strategic Plan. The Technical and Research program is unique in the depth of the subject matter addressed and range of issue and topics explored. SNAME sponsors applied research promotes the development of Technical and Research bulletins and standards that address emerging technical areas of need and urgency. There are a variety of opportunities to publish and present technical research and for information to be vetted through the peer review process. SNAME also offers extensive educational opportunities both on the national and section level as well as online. SNAME supports the future of the industry via the Student Steering Committee, Student Sections and Student Development programs. Scholarships both undergraduate and graduate are available. Outreach programs address the need to recruit future engineers into our disciplines.
