SNAME NTUA in cooperation with the educative initiative ISALOS.NET organized an educative visit at the drill ship "Ocean Rig Athena" wich is moored at the Elefsina Bay and is under the management of Ocean Rig Management Inc.
"Ocean Rig Athena" is a 7th Generation Deep Water Drillship, built in 2013, at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyards in South Korea. This drillship can operate at depths ranging from 500 to 3.650 meters and is equiped with a state-of-art Dynamic Positioning System, DP Class 3.

SNAME students had the chance to see up close many spaces of the drillship, like the drilling tower, the moon pool, the engine room with the generators and the azipod propulsion units. Superintendent engineers of Ocean Rig Management Inc. were accompanying the students and explaining everything to them in detail.
